When I first laid eyes upon Zachary Weiss’ recent footwear collaboration with Stubbs and Wootton, I was instantly transported to the magic of a New Year’s Eve night. These specialized slippers immediately brought me back to December 31st, 2019 around 11:59 p.m, a moment of frivolous and fanciful fashion married with optimistic expectation for the future. With these images in mind, it came as no surprise to learn that the ultimate party editor-turned-shoe designer wants everyone who wears these shoes to get right back to that same “universally positive feeling.”
Zachary describes it perfectly as he recalls moments of leaving the office on a Friday looking forward to the weekend, “Just good energy.”
Mr. Weiss has had a long history of wearing Stubbs & Wootton having first been introduced to the brand as a gift from a friend for his high school senior prom. He admits he was initially hesitant to try those particular shoes due to their distinct shape, but now, I think it’s safe to say that he’s finally “broken” them in. He has now collected over fifteen pairs and incorporates them into his almost daily uniform of go-to white trousers (all year long). He says, “I thought there was room for them to be a little more youthful and irreverent”.
Since the capsule collection launch, Zachary says he has received a hearty response from the general public largely due to expert digital marketing. He tapped photographer to the stars, Krista Schlueter to capture himself wearing his shoes outside the St. Regis Hotel in looks that compliment the collection brilliantly.
As a veteran event columnist for titles such as Vogue.com and Architectural Digest, Zachary knows a lot about how to enjoy himself.
While in conversation with him about the collection, it makes perfect sense that throughout the brainstorming process, the overall theme of travel came to mind: particularly, the St. Regis properties that Weiss had frequented throughout his travel escapades. Much of the collection’s inspiration came directly from his unique experiences there, such as the hotels’ daily ritual of having a senior member of their bar saber off the cork of a champagne bottle. He explains, “It’s just a fun moment to kick off the evening and it’s super quaint – such a special moment that you don’t have every day.”
This is what inspired the pair with the champagne and bubbles, one he loves and believes will do really well. It’s quite ironic — that same black velvet pair is also my personal favorite and something I frankly wouldn’t mind sporting myself going into 2021.
This capsule shoe collaboration has done a superb job of executing its vision for the spectacular sensations of sprucer-uppers for the man who is not afraid of taking bold risks and is used to both standing out and mixing well within a crowd.
We both agreed that the shoes should ideally be worn with a solid suit moment to let the shoe pop and give it the justice it deserves. These shoes could also be worn with a pair of simple blue jeans and a T-shirt to add a touch of fun to the look.
Retailing for $550, Zachary Weiss’ collection is now available to shop exclusively at stubbsandwootton.com and select St. Regis Hotels globally.
