In Milan, creative director Guillame Meilland put the utmost sophistication at the forefront of his latest collection for Salvatore Ferragamo, a house that has always stood for its laissez-faire approach to luxury ready-to-wear.

Loosely inspired by the 1977 romance drama, That Obscure Object of Desire, among other things, Meilland aimed to merge a plethora of references within a single collection – which is why each look feels unique. Somehow, he has also told a cohesive story that works for the present. Each look feels like an early August day on the Amalfi coast — 73  degrees and a glass of chilled white wine in hand without a single care in the world.

Several stand-outs make the heart sing like the decadent knit featured in a pink pairing of a polo with an oversized matching trouser, also done in white, with elegant belts that cinch the waist. This knit is also featured in a surprising color-blocking moment. There is a slightly muted tangerine-colored set of shorts and a matching button-down shirt underneath a mustard yellow coat.

The accessories featured in the collection are all hits with no misses. There is the subtle placement of a super-chic silver cuff bracelet placed on the models who are also clutching emptied-out and rolled up clutch-like leather bags.

Ferragamo has ushered in the spirit of letting your hair down wearing clothing that feels more luxurious and comfortable. Please see the tiger-print coat with a black collar and personal favorite: a v neck caftan-like contraption with billowing sleeves.

There is also a huge influx of outerwear sprinkled in and shorts with hemlines that  land high above the knee.

Meilland also unveiled a footwear invention here — a geometrically shaped sole with straps wrapping around the foot resembling the thick wire of the telephone or a coax  cable.

Every look is a real testament to Meilland’s masterful ability to produce pieces that stay true to the brand’s age-old sophisticated take on sportswear while incorporating truly trend-setting statements for the Spring/Summer 2022 season.
