WORDS BY,

DOUGLAS HENRY LEWIS

The Air Mail Work Jacket is one of those pieces that will stand the test of time because of Its craftsmanship.

The label on the inside features an official seal from HRH The Prince of Wales, a fabulous logo from Anderson & Sheppard/AIR MAIL and a quirky quote from Charles Lamb. It all feels very light, fun, and easy.

Anda Rowland, the fearless, devoted, and oh-so-dapper daughter of “Tiny” Rowland, who once owned the legendary Anderson & Sheppard has already made huge strides in the bespoke tailoring stratosphere, as she is the only woman who leads a company of this nature.

Rowland’s story and operation is a true testimony to how some individuals are simply born to be outstanding, as she was simply at the right place at the right time when it came time for her to take over the storied Savile Row establishment. Her passion to carry on her father’s legacy with the brand is evident, as her words flow seamlessly and the most stylish men on the planet are still flocking to her over 115 years later.

Regarding sustainability, Rowland proves that the brand has been “modern from the beginning,” with its commitment to continue their practices of transparent construction, responsible sourcing, and doing things right the first time.

After virtually speaking with her and seeing the masterpieces of design in her beautifully designed haberdashery, one can certainly tell that although Rowland may be taking up new territory by shattering a glass ceiling in this sector of the industry, she is still interested in preserving the timeless traditions of yesteryear.

The concept of “What is old is new” reigns supreme and this season, Rowland is continuing her commitment to menswear excellence with a highly-sought-after jacket made in collaboration with Graydon Carter, former editor for Vanity Fair and current founder of the bespoke newsletter, Air Mail. Certainly no stranger to high taste or Anderson & Sheppard wardrobing, the result of Carter’s partnership with Rowland sees an exquisite and classically designed work jacket comprised of the best material possible: a 12-Oz worsted English flannel in a delicious navy blue that makes it easy to slip on with a myriad of looks.

What makes this partnership particularly special is the grassroots method in which the jacket is constructed. Through every process of the jacket’s construction, each detail was hand-selected and fine-tooth combed. Long-time arbiter of style, Graydon Carter knows high quality, so it was a no-brainer for him to go back to his roots of fine men’s tailoring with Anderson & Sheppard, an establishment that has long been an it-brand for the world’s most respected creative gentlemen.

The jacket is available online and will also be available as a Made to Order item. Those who have been itching to cross the Atlantic to get a taste of how our British counterparts are functioning can get a look at the storied brand’s second shop where a varieties of gentlemen come to further accessorize their bespoke suits.
