Moroccan jewel La Mamounia hosts 135 rooms, 65 suites, six signature suites, and three riads, each a tribute to the region's abundant history. The rooms, ranging from grand to cozy, blend Moroccan heritage and contemporary luxury. The architecture and decor mirror the city of Marrakech, where tradition merges with the modern, and guests are whisked away to spaces that reflect Morocco's history, where each room is a portal to a different era. As they settle into their rooms, they stand in awe at the intricately designed spaces, each mirroring a unique chapter in Marrakech's past. A visit to The Medina, the historic heart of Marrakech, is a visual and sensory delight. The city's inhabitants have long practiced the art of understated luxury, reflected in their buildings and motifs - serpentine elements and diamonds.
Like La Mamounia, Marrakech has been a magnet for household names and celebrities. Winston Churchill once chose it as his winter haven, and the city continues to attract esteemed filmmakers, French and American, fashion icons, musical legends, and even royalty. Like the city, this history influences La Mamounia to innovate continuously.
For many, La Mamounia is synonymous with Marrakech's tourism industry. The powerhouse celebrated a remarkable milestone in the heart of Marrakech, marking its centennial year in style. For three nights, October 5 to October 7, 2023, La Mamounia hosted a Centennial Celebration to recognize its forward movement. La Mamounia welcomed guests to the Centennial Celebration with traditional Moroccan dancers and musicians, setting the stage for a three-night celebration.
Each day and night, guests were treated to breathtaking sunrises and sunsets from their balconies, complete with surprise delights courtesy of Pierre Herme.
On the first night of its festivities, La Mamounia unveiled its Centenary Chandelier, an homage to Moroccan arts. This luminous sculpture, integrated into the lobby ceiling, was inspired by traditional Tamazight jewelry and manifests La Mamounia's bond to blending the past with the future.
The hotel announced recently redesigned spaces reflecting nobility and elegance, featuring an interplay of light and space that echo Morocco's rich cultural influences. Each corner reflects a treasure trove of stories from the past. The Salon D'Honneur, once the hotel's main entrance, has been transformed into a small museum showcasing images of influential figures. The chosen shade of blue and Berber wicker mats add a touch of tradition to the space. Bar Majorelle, adorned with Jacques Majorelle's iconic patterns, is where guests gather for coffee, cocktails, and the culinary creations of Chef Pierre Herme.
For more leisure activity, while guests enjoy the spa's rejuvenating offerings, they can also explore La Mamounia's shops, a reflection of the busy souks of Marrakech. The hotel's spa, featuring 2 Traditional Hammans, a Private Hamman, and ten multi-treatment cabins, offers guests an immersive journey through Moroccan traditions in the lap of luxury. La Mamounia's swimming pool transforms into a hub of delight, encircling a blue ceramic fountain.
For nightlife, Le Club on the second floor of the Moroccan restaurant is a beacon of light. The ambiance, electro beats, and oriental-inspired sounds mirror Marrakech's vibrant nightlife.
The hotel's restaurants offer a taste of La Mamounia by Jean George, with L'Italien providing a chic dining experience with garden views and L'Asiatique showing a fusion of Chinese, Japanese, and Thai influences.
On night two, La Mamounia's gardens became the setting for a grand banquet, where a 120-meter-long dining table seated 350 guests. The culinary masterpiece was prepared by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, with pastries by Pierre Herme, and accompanied by the musical talents of Sofiane Pamart, who impressed guests with his classical repertoire.
The celebration culminated in a grand event on night three, attended by 2000 guests worldwide, including notables from fashion and culture industries. Like Marrakech, it was a spectacle of music, light, and unity. After a recent earthquake, a musical extravaganza, culinary delights, and a charitable initiative showcased the hotel's dedication to Marrakech's welfare. La Mamounia's donation of 10 million Dirhams to the reconstruction fund was a testament to their enduring bond with the city.
As the Moroccan national anthem filled the air, the crowd was treated to mesmerizing performances, including a rendition of La Marche Verte. Musician Mika's electrifying hour-long performance built up to a drone display that painted the Marrakech sky with light, followed by a breathtaking fireworks spectacle - an extravagant display unlike any other. The weekend was an expression of La Mamounia's commitment to distinction. It encapsulated the essence of Moroccan hospitality, where dreams and reality blend with ease.
As the echoes of La Mamounia's Centennial Celebration faded into the Marrakech night, the questions arose: What lies ahead for Morocco, Marrakech, and this timeless establishment in the next century?
With its history and cultural influence, Morocco is poised to continue its journey of transformation while preserving the essence of its heritage, ensuring that the legacy of the past is cherished and revered.
Marrakech, the Red City, will continue to evolve, much like its architectural wonders. The dynamic nature of the city will mirror its progression as it finds its place in the modern world.
