These men are covering our favorite styling techniques:

monochrome dressing, soft tailoring, sleek eyewear, double-breasted suiting, and more.

2 MINS READ TIME

For us, the most enjoyable part of attending Pitti Uomo is not presenting new products for the upcoming season nor the remarkable parties surrounding the event. Instead, it is observing what some of the most sartorial men in the world are interested in when it comes to what they choose to put on their backs.

Each year outside Fortezza Da Basso, we know to expect rows and rows of sartorial elegance. While expectations were spot on this season, we noticed choices in creative styling that highlighted a self-taught way of dressing, that is, compared to what we have always known to consider timeless or classic.

There is a rethinking of how to approach sartorial style. This idea sees setting aside traditional styling rules and focusing individuality with practical items that enhance signature style.

From mix-and-match styles to outerwear with oversized silhouettes, here are some of our favorite styles from January’s event in Florence, Italy.

VOLUMINOUS OVERCOATS

Even with the casual knitwear underneath, this look feels effortlessly chic. Sometimes, a man needs the right amount of volume on his trousers and outerwear to elevate the outfit.

We can’t stop talking about the slightly oversized silhouette of the outerwear. Indeed, it’s an investment piece that will align with any wardrobe timelessly.

UNNATURAL PAIRINGS

There is this notion that suiting has to be addictively neat. At BOND OFFICIAL, we agree, but especially at an event like Pitti Uomo, we like to see some unnatural pairings now and then, like a baseball cap layered on a tote bag that has been lived in. It allows for the perfect contrast and a clever way to showcase how the entire look can be worn in more than one way. The whole ensemble feels practical and comfortable, blending contemporary and traditional styles in menswear.

MILITARY INFLUENCES

Rather than going for a fully tailored look, this man decided to throw elements of military and utilitarian influences in the mix; that’s why it has our attention.

It’s an ensemble that could have fared well with a monochrome styling technique, but we further celebrate the man using red socks to add depth in a way that doesn’t feel showy or attention-seeking. Perhaps due to the well-coordinated combination of colors on the fabric of the trousers.

MAXIMALIST DETAILS

This meticulously curated look alters the impression that tailored dressing must be one-dimensional. Everything that traditionally should not work, like all of the maximalist details on each item of clothing, works for this look. With menswear rules as we know them, it is advised that print and pattern pairings should be kept to a minimum. For example, if you style a dotted tie, everything else should be kept plain to keep the focus on one or two details of the look.

Our favorite thing about this look is how every style decision feels like his own. There’s a pattern on every article of clothing, and it all works without looking stiff. Each clothing item is well-fitted. The shoulders on the extra wide lapel coat look very soft, the pinstripe suit seems very sharp, and the tie knot suits the style of the spread collar shirt.

This is quintessetial sprezzatura.
